Digital Design
To me, design is a way of highlighting what already exists. I believe every business, community, and person carries a moʻolelo worth sharing, and that how it looks is part of how it's remembered. Whether I'm building a branding kit for a small local business, designing print collateral, or laying out a newsletter, I start by listening and laying elements out in my head. Then, I choose shapes, colors, and layout to align with the values of the people behind it. Good design should look polished, but more than that, it should look like what they imagined.

Digital Newsletter Design

What do you expect when you sign up for email marketing? Bright colors, captivating photos, important information? Probably not. That's the battle I face every week editing digital marketing newsletters, fighting the urge to silence the notification before it's even opened. I pull attention in with copy first, then hold it with visuals.

I find real joy in laying out a good email. In my current role, I write and edit the front page of the weekly newsletter, while also handling the layout and photos for four subpages. In a previous role, I created a bi-weekly promotional email featuring important dates, announcements, and small games to boost readership.

Graphic Design Examples

My graphic design work spans digital drawings, event flyers, and the visual elements that bring our newsletters to life. Everything is built around one core idea: all pieces should feel unmistakably on-brand, no matter where someone encounters it. That means consistent color, type, and spacing choices across formats, but it also means designing with accessibility in mind from the start: sufficient color contrast, legible type at a distance, and layouts that hold up for every reader, not just some. The same instincts that keep a website's content and social media community centered apply here too — good design isn't just something you see; it's something everyone can actually use.
